Rice Krispie Mickey Treats: Sticky, Yummy, Holiday Fun

Want a fun and easy holiday treat you can whip up in minutes? Give your oven a break and try some Rice Krispie Mickey treats. It’s sticky, yummy, holiday fun.

The only ingredients you need are a few tablespoons of butter, a small bag of marshmallows and a box of Rice Krispie treats. I opted for the red and green Rice Krispie cereal to make the treats more festive for the holidays, but you could easily stick with the regular variety.

For the shape I used a Mickey Mouse-shaped sandwich cutter that I purchased on Amazon.  There are similar options available at Jo-Ann’s and other craft stores. Regular Christmas cookie cutters work too!

You’ll probably want to have some wax paper and non-stick spray on hand too. Did I mention this stuff is sticky?

The instructions are on the box, but I’ve added a few tips too. First step is to melt 3 TBSP of butter in a pan on low heat. You could also use the microwave if you’d prefer. Once the butter is melted, stir in a small bag of marshmallows (about 10 ounces).

Next watch the marshmallows melt into a delicious, white goo. I kept the heat very low, because I’ve read it helps to keep the treats soft once they’re done. (We’ll see!) It took about five minutes.

Next I combined the white goo with six cups of the cereal. I’m going to consider this part my arm workout for the day. It took some effort. This stuff is sticky!

Then I sprayed a 9×13″ pan with non-stick spray and poured (pried?) the mixture into the pan. Next I placed a piece of wax paper on top of the mixture and gently pressed down on the treats in the pan to make them level.

After spraying the sandwich cutter with some non-stick spray, I cut my first Mickey shape.

After I cut each one, I squished the remaining treat mixture back together. It was a little tricky cutting the sticky treats while the mixture was still warm, but it minimized the amount of mixture I had left over. I ended up with an even dozen treats. I also learned that granite countertops can camouflage Rice Krispie treats!

Since I blitzed through these steps so quickly I had time to over complicate, I mean further enhance my treats. I grabbed a half bag of chocolate chips and melted them in the microwave on medium power. Then I dipped Mickey’s ears into it. This left too much chocolate on some of the treats (is that possible?), so I switched to spooning chocolate onto the treats instead.

For the few treats that had too much chocolate, I spread it over the entire surface of the treat rather than limiting it to just the ears. This will add a little more variety to the plate. I left a few of the treats plain for the same reason.

Here’s a look at the completed Rice Krispie Mickey treats.  They aren’t perfect, but they’ll certainly jazz up my holiday dessert table.

Maybe it will help me with the big man too.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a wonderful holiday and add a little magic to your world!
