Mickey Waffles: Add magic to your breakfast

If you’ve ever been to Disney World, you’re probably familiar with Mickey Mouse-shaped treats. I say “treats” because most of them fall in that category: soft pretzels, ice cream bars, chocolate covered apples, cupcakes, etc. You get the idea. Your local grocery store probably has a few options on the shelf. Pinterest is overflowing with make-at-home ideas too. Some of the best treats, which you can recreate at home with limited culinary expertise, are the Mickey waffles.

Over the holidays I found this gem with my name on it under the tree. Yummo. I didn’t even drop any hints.

I was a little skeptical at first. The Mickey waffle maker looks great, but it doesn’t feel incredibly sturdy. Sometimes the quality of Mickey-inspired products disappoints me.

That was not the case here. This waffle maker is incredibly easy to use and a great way to add a little magic to your breakfast… or breakfast for dinner… or ice cream sundae spectacular.

From the first time I used it, the waffles turned out perfectly.  Well, occasionally Mickey has an underdeveloped ear or a double-chin, but that’s my fault for pouring too much or too little batter. Overall, the waffle maker cooks quickly and evenly, releasing the Mickey-shaped treats without any sticking.

Aren’t they cute?

I read some complaints regarding the waffle maker from other users on-line. Most of them focus on the quality of the maker and the thinness of the resulting waffles. A few people mentioned the taste “doesn’t come close” to the ones at Disney World. I get it. I already mentioned the waffle maker doesn’t feel particularly sturdy, and the waffles made from it are definitely thinner than the Belgian-variety ones that are served in the parks. On the plus side though, you can make these while wearing slippers, eat them as often as you like and control the ingredients with which they are made. That’s right. You can even make healthy Mickey waffles! If they are too thin for you, stack ’em.

For around $30, the waffle maker costs less than one adult breakfast buffet at Disney World, which seems like a decent deal to me.  Here’s a link to the version I have from Amazon if you’re interested:  <Stainless Mickey Waffle Maker>   There are similar varieties at Kohl’s and JCPenney too.

So, the next time you get a craving for waffles at home, consider giving these Mickey waffles a try. I bet they bring a smile… and possibly a little magic to your world.
